Day 205 Morning duties done with discipline: officer quarters, chow hall, barracks inspected. Logistics are slipping. Food arrives off‑schedule, never smelling as good as what the officers get. I spent most of the day alone defending the base from constant “attacks,” close enough that the wind carried the scent of their meals over our walls. Late afternoon brought a downpour. Thunder made the normal latrine unusable, so I held it. Hours passed. Threats faded with the sun. The night air was warm enough to lick condensation off a glass. A sudden second wind hit, so I ran a few wind sprints, then wandered the base looking for anything interesting. That’s when I begin to hear it. Engine roars, tires squeals, stu‑tu‑tu. Reinforcements en route. As it grew louder, I ran to the front window. It was them. Ran to the door, pacing hard, waiting for it to open. When it did, it was them. I got so excited a little pee came out. Oh, by the way… I’m a dog. How quickly can you get home?
