Forza Horizon 6 Save Corrupted or Progress Gone? How to Restore an Older Cloud Save on Xbox
by Khi
You opened Forza Horizon 6 and suddenly your progress is gone.
Maybe the game started from the beginning. Maybe you’re missing hours of progress. Maybe you got an Invalid Profile error. Cars, liveries, vinyls and other creations you’ve spent hours on suddenly look like they’ve disappeared.
Before you start over: your old save may still be recoverable on Xbox.
We recently had this happen to an HCS member. We went searching for a solution and found a lot of people who had simply given up. The actual fix took about a minute.
Restore an older Forza Horizon 6 cloud save on Xbox
On your Xbox:
- Go to My games & apps
- Highlight Forza Horizon 6
- Press the Menu/Start button on your controller
- Select Manage game and add-ons
- Open Saved data
- Choose Restore saved data / the cloud-save management option
- Look through the available previous cloud saves
- Select a save from before your progress disappeared
- Restore it, then launch Forza Horizon 6
That’s it.
In our case, restoring the previous cloud save brought the player’s progress back.
You may lose whatever progress was made after that backup was created, so check the timestamps and choose the newest save that you know was still good.
Don’t immediately start a new game
This is the important part.
If FH6 suddenly acts like you’ve never played before, don’t just start playing from scratch.
Forza Horizon 6 stores its progress in the cloud and associates that save with your Microsoft/Xbox account. The same save system is also used for cross-platform progression between Xbox, Windows and Steam.
If something has gone wrong with the latest version, you want to see whether Xbox still has an older synchronized copy before creating more save data.
Forza’s developers have officially acknowledged an issue where FH6 progress can be lost or reset.
Why do so many posts say the save can’t be recovered?
Because a lot of them are old.
FH6’s lost-save problem was being widely reported in May and June 2026. At the time, players were trying things like deleting local saves, forcing cloud synchronization, reinstalling the game or contacting Forza Support. Some players reported losing hundreds of hours.
Xbox and Forza subsequently made several changes to the save system.
One change added a conflict dialog intended to let FH6 players recover the latest usable cloud version instead of suffering a complete loss. Later, Xbox began rolling out the ability to browse and restore previously synchronized cloud-save versions directly from the console.
That’s why you may now have a recovery option that simply didn’t exist when many of those forum posts were written.
What if there isn’t an older cloud save?
Don’t overwrite things trying random fixes.
Forza’s official guidance for players affected by lost or reset progress has been to contact Forza Support as soon as possible. Their team has specifically investigated FH6 lost-save cases.
Forza Horizon 6 Lost Save Support
When contacting them, include your platform, gamertag, roughly when your last good save was, what happened immediately before the problem, and any error code you received.
Your Forza Horizon 6 progress might not actually be gone
This is the part we wish had shown up when we searched for the problem.
If you’re playing FH6 on Xbox and suddenly find yourself staring at the intro with your progression missing, don’t assume you’ve lost everything.
Check your previous Xbox cloud saves first.
For us, that was the fix.
Hopefully this saves somebody else from staring at hundreds of hours of missing cars and thinking they’re about to have a very bad evening. :D
